Our Church History
Mount Ridge Missionary Baptist Church has been a beacon of faith, service, and spiritual growth in Chicago for generations.
In March 1975, Reverend Snirly Fred Simpson was elected as the Pastor of Mount Ridge. At the time, the church had about 50 members. Under Pastor Simpson’s dedicated leadership, the congregation flourished, reaching its peak of approximately 450 members in the 1980s. Today, the church is home to approximately 315 members. Pastor Simpson's mission, "To Reach the Lost at All Cost," has guided every endeavor from preaching and teaching to missions and extensive building renovations. For over four decades, he has served faithfully as a shepherd, mentor, and visionary leader.
A new chapter in our church’s story began in June 2024, when Mount Ridge Missionary Baptist Church and St. James Unity Baptist Church officially united as one church family. This historic merger was a day filled with joy, hope, and deep spiritual significance. It wasn’t just the combining of congregations it was the merging of hearts, missions, and futures.
As part of this significant moment, we welcomed Pastor Joseph Campbell into the role of Executive Pastor. Formerly the pastor of St. James Unity, Pastor Campbell now helps lead Mount Ridge with wisdom, energy, and a deep commitment to spiritual and community development. His presence strengthens our leadership team and reinforces our shared vision for growth, discipleship, and outreach.
Together, under the leadership of Pastor Simpson and Pastor Campbell, Mount Ridge is embracing a vibrant new season rooted in our history, inspired by unity, and empowered by God’s purpose.
As we move forward, we remain committed to walking in faith, love, and unity building on a strong foundation while boldly stepping into the future.
